Peer Review Process

Journal of Sustainable Geosynthetics follows a single-blind peer review process. All submitted manuscripts must undergo peer review before they can be accepted for publication. The Editor-in-Chief holds the final authority on all publication decisions.

How Peer Review Works

1.Once a manuscript is submitted, it is first prescreened by the Editorial Office to ensure it meets the journal’s technical submission requirements. The Peer Review Support Specialist also evaluates whether the manuscript aligns with the journal’s aims and scope.

2.After the prescreening is complete, the manuscript is forwarded to the Editor-in-Chief for initial evaluation. At this stage, the Editor-in-Chief considers the manuscript’s relevance, methodological soundness, and overall clarity. An initial editorial decision may be made at this point.

3.If the submission proceeds, the Editor-in-Chief assigns it to an Associate Editor, selected based on the manuscript’s subject area.

4.The Associate Editor assesses the manuscript for its suitability for peer review. Based on this assessment, and in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief, the submission may be rejected without external review.

5.If deemed appropriate, the Associate Editor will invite at least two external reviewers to evaluate the manuscript. In the single-blind model, reviewers are aware of the authors’ identities, while the authors do not know who reviewed their work.

6.Upon receiving feedback from the reviewers, the Associate Editor will make a recommendation. If the reviewers’ opinions differ significantly, an additional reviewer may be invited to provide further input before a recommendation is finalized.

7.The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision, taking into account the Associate Editor’s recommendation and their own assessment. The possible outcomes include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.

8.If the manuscript is returned for revision or rejected, the corresponding author will receive detailed reviewer comments. For revised submissions, final approval by the Editor-in-Chief is required before acceptance. Once accepted, the manuscript will undergo a final review by the Editorial Office to ensure it is ready for production. Authors may be contacted if further updates are necessary.

9.Upon acceptance, the production team will reach out to the corresponding author to complete the publication license and process the Article Processing Charges (APC).

10.Prior to typesetting, the corresponding author will receive page proofs for review. Authors are responsible for verifying all content and must return the corrected proofs within five working days.

Plagiarism Detection

Authors must ensure that any reused material is properly quoted or paraphrased and fully cited. The journal uses Crossref’s Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate, to screen all submissions for potential plagiarism. A similarity score of less than 20% is considered acceptable.

This service compares the manuscript with a wide range of sources, including online content and other scholarly publications in the Crossref database, to identify overlapping text and ensure originality.
